Opera 10.10 Beta 1 released
As expected well before Opera 10 was release, Opera 10.10 appears on stage, featuring the previously announced and demonstrated feature known as Opera Unite.
Due to release date constraints on Opera 10's release and immaturity of Opera Unite, it was decided to hold it off until it solidified enough. Today marks the day that the first beta appears solely focused on Opera Unite, so we can be sure that Opera 10.10 will not end without it.
In case you don't know, Opera Unite is a new feature that in simplistic terms enables your Opera web browser to be a web server on itself. Connected with My Opera (yes this is a required dependency that cannot be changed), it allows you to share files, host web sites, leave notes for your friends, share your photos, send and receive messages, and much more. Especially the 'more' factor here opens up a lot of potential. For instance it's possible to have a media player, that streams music from your Opera Unite powered computer to anywhere else you might be staying (or working).
Of course besides Opera Unite there are more changes, these are primarily focused on bug fixes and polishing of the already solid Opera 10.0 release. So enjoy this new beta, and remember to enable UPnP on your router (and open up your firewall).
In what way is My Opera required? It provides a DNS service, and a fallback proxy, but the only Application that actually needs My Opera is Messenger. You can host the rest without a My Opera account.
