Mozilla 2 to be based on Cairo graphics library

mozillaZine and MozillaNews report that a first demo has been given on the future move that's going to happen to the Mozilla architecture. The first phase onwards to a Mozilla 2 platform will be made in Mozilla 1.9. In this version Cairo has been partially implemented and used for the current graphics system. In the end the goal and use of Cairo is to have Mozilla based applications with modern 2D graphics abilities, like transparency, transform operations and more. With the help of Glitz, Cairo will be able to use hardware 3D acceleration, and offer better performance with more advanced features like Scalable Vector Graphics.
